Microsoft's AI-powered Copy & Paste Now Runs on-Device
Microsoft is enhancing its Advanced Paste feature in PowerToys for Windows 11, enabling users to leverage an on-device AI model for its capabilities. The 0.96 update allows routing requests through Microsoft’s Foundry Local tool or the open-source Ollama, both of which utilize AI models on the device’s neural processing unit (NPU) without relying on cloud connections.
This shift ensures that users won’t be required to purchase API credits to execute actions like text translation or summarization through AI. Additionally, keeping the data on the device provides users with privacy and security. The update also adds support for on-device AI capabilities.
With this evolution, users can enjoy faster and more efficient AI-powered operations directly on their devices, enhancing productivity without compromising data security or accessibility.
Microsoft’s commitment to empowering users through advanced technology is further reflected in this update, emphasizing the importance of on-device AI in enhancing the overall user experience.
